Ramas - A Speedy Fundraiser

Wellington resident Seetharaman Ramasubramanian (Ramas as his friends call him) raised over $500 for the Heart Foundation in just a month.

Ramas took part in the 10km Shoe Clinic Harbour Capital Marathon on 25 June. Ramas' involvement as a Heart Racer was linked to the Ramaspositive lifestyle changes he had made during the previous twelve months. At a routine insurance medical check-up a year ago, his GP told him that he was at risk of heart disease and diabetes due to his excess weight and ethnic background.

"I was really taken aback, as my health had always generally been pretty good," says Ramas.

"But over the next six months I made a real effort to alter my eating habits to make healthier choices, and I began to run. At first I could only jog a few kilometres, and I’d keep stopping! But within a year I was able to run 10km, and had shed 20 kg in weight."

"My own health scare helped me appreciate the great work the Heart Foundation does, and it is a worthy cause to support, "says Ramas.

"I utilised my email contacts and kept reminding the people I knew about what I was doing. They found it very easy to visit the website and donate, and appreciated what a good cause they were supporting."
